The American Citizens’ Guide to Seeking Asylum Abroad

This piece was originally published by [wherever] magazine, an out of place journal of travel literature, travel culture, and travel politics. I will periodically be blogging for the new magazine, which seems like a very cool publication (probably too cool for the likes of me, but for now, I’m still in).

I wrote this piece because I am contacted pretty regularly by U.S. citizens who are seeking asylum abroad, or who are thinking about it. Some of these asylum seekers are not so legitimate in my estimation–criminals who hope to avoid the consequences of their crimes. Others represent sad situations that involve people who have been frustrated by their inability to receive help from the government. Victims of domestic abuse are one example in this category. Also, there are those who are engaged in political activity (or what they consider political activity) that could result in criminal penalties here. Edward Snowden falls into this category. So do certain cannabis activists and others in favor of drug legalization (people who consider drug use a political act).

Let’s say you’ve decided to flee the United State of America. You’re not some high-profile asylum seeker like Edward Snowden, who can count on help from a rival government (Russia). Instead, you’re just an ordinary asylum seeker, who will have to demonstrate that you qualify for protection under international law. How would you go about it? 

To qualify for asylum, you need to demonstrate that you are a “refugee” under international law. According to the 1951 UN Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, a “refugee” is “any person who, owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality, and is unable to or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country.” The first thing you need to do in order to qualify for asylum is to leave the United States.

While a Julian Assange might get away with living in a friendly embassy (Ecuador in his case), you’re probably no Julian Assange.  Most people who ask for refuge inside an embassy will be summarily evicted. So don’t think you can simply waltz into the nearest consulate of your choice, tell them you need assistance, and that they will provide you with a bed and three squares. It just doesn’t work that way. So you’ll first need to get out of the U.S.

Assuming you make it safely to your new country, you will need to show that you were persecuted in the past or that you have a well-founded fear of future persecution. “Persecution” has been defined as “an extreme concept, marked by the infliction of suffering or harm… in a way regarded as offensive.” So for example, if you’re a cannabis activist who faces jail time for smoking pot, you likely would not qualify for asylum because this punishment is not severe enough to constitute “persecution.”

Even if you have been persecuted, that might not be enough to win your asylum case—the persecution has to be on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion. If you fear harm because you revealed government secrets, a la Edward Snowden, that might not be considered one of the protected grounds, and so you would be out of luck (though perhaps you could argue that your “whistleblowing” was a form of political activity and thus gain protection). Also, if you fear persecution from criminal gangs, or you face domestic violence, or you will be harmed because of your sexual orientation, you may or may not qualify for asylum—it depends on the law of the country where you are requesting protection. For this reason, you would be well served by doing some research about the country where you plan to seek protection before you make the trip. 

So how do you actually make the claim for asylum once you reach your destination country? In many countries (including most countries you’d actually want to go to), there is a form to complete where you provide information about yourself and your claim. You also need to submit evidence—identity documents like your passport, and school and work records, evidence of harm such as medical records and police reports, letters from people attesting to your problems. Then you will be interviewed about your application. Small mistakes on the form or during the interview—a wrong date for example—might cause the adjudicator to conclude that you are not credible, and that your claim is false. Also, seeking asylum from a powerful and influential country like the U.S., a country that generally respects human rights, will be an uphill battle. And remember, there is a good chance you will be doing all of this in a language you don’t understand, possibly while the host government is detaining you as an illegal migrant. The case will take months if you are lucky and years if you are not. Some governments provide limited benefits such as housing and a small stipend for people with pending asylum cases; other governments require asylum seekers to fend for themselves.

Assuming you pass the interview and are granted asylum, what then? You might receive some assistance from the host country—housing, language instruction, job placement—or you might not. In some countries, you can petition to bring your immediate relatives (minor children and spouse) to join you. This will likely take many months, on top of the many months you already waited for the decision in your case.  If you ever return to the U.S., you will quite possibly lose your asylum status and be deported from your new home. So there is a good chance you can’t ever come back, and you probably won’t see many of your relatives and friends again.

As you can see, asylum is often a difficult, frightening, and traumatic process.  Good Luck (though you will need more than that!).

You do not need luck or asylum you need God.The double slit experiment proves to me there God is real.I knew God is real before I researched quantum physics and the double slit experiment because I have seen him work in my life.There are many ways to survive well with out asylum.You can live on the ocean in a sailboat.You can grow and sprout your own healthy food.An american citizen can get a free 3 mouth visa when visiting Colombia.If you live in Colombia for 3 months then cross the amazon river from Leticia Colombia to Peru you can get a 3 month free visa in Peru.Keep doing that and you stay forever or until law’s change.The Amazon is so huge you can disappear into it forever.The Amazon has awesomeness!God is truly at work there.If you really want to play their game and apply for asylum you need to understand how this corrupt world works.It is run by central banks and the family’s who control them.The federal reserve is a central bank.All currency must be changed over to U.S. currency. All currency except that of Cuba,Iran and North Korea is backed by U.S. dollars.These countries don’t have central banks and do not play the game.These are probably the only countries willing to give a U.S. citizen asylum because they are not playing the game.The U.S. dollar is no longer backed by Gold or anything tanagable.This may be why we lost great souls like president Robert Kennedy and president Abraham Lincoln.   3. I am going to get as much background information out as possible. I am 48 years old and have always been a drug addict. Until 2015 I was able to work and enjoyed mostly a normal life. That year I was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance (5.2 grams of methamphetamine). After pleading guilty I received 4 years of supervised probation and lost my job at the U.S. Postal Service. I could not find a job even close to my normal salary and certainly could not afford my life long habit anymore. I began to sell Meth to make a living. A few month ago my door was kicked in by the local drug task force. There were no drugs found but detective told me that I am on recorded wires selling meth. I am being revoked on my original four year sentence and once in jail for that, I will be charged in federal court on the most recent investigation. Best case scenario is 14 years in federal prison – eligible for parole in 12 and that is best case. I will face 10 years to life on the most recent investigation. I can not get a passport because of current probation. I am running out of time and options. Everyday I get a little closer to prison and truly believe I will die there unless I take action now. I have a little money but most of it was stolen (seized) during federal raid. I am a decorated former Navy Corpsmen who served my country honorably while being stationed with Marines in the Gulf War. I know most of you blame every world problem on drug addicts and hold resentments against us that will never weaken. If all you have to offer is statements like “you deserve it” or “face the consequences”, than don’t bother replying. Yes, I have heard this my entire life. My warning to anyone who thinks like this is – I believe I was very hard and unkind to drug addicts in a past life. God has now taught me to be merciful to everyone……..and I mean everyone. Since 2015 I no longer see this country through rose colored glasses. I am shocked that I was once so brain washed and close minded. I am willing to go anywhere and do whatever it takes to remain free (ironically the human right I thought I was fighting for in the military). If any of you can guide or assist me I would appreciate it.

    • The problem is that under international law, this would probably not be a basis for asylum. Your better bet would be to talk to a lawyer in the US and see what can be done about the case here. Good luck, Jason

  4. I am American and in opposition to the politically correct climate all over this country. I do not believe in institutional racism , I do not subscribe to transgender beliefs and feel oppressed and in fear of violence to even speak my views. We are also beginning to see laws forcing us to play along with these mental diseases against our will lest you be charged with a hate crime for expressing an opinion which is supposed to be my right under the 1st amendment.. paramilitary citizen (antifa &others)organizations make me fear violence against me just for having opposing views

    • What other country, aside from Russia, do you see protecting your right to discriminate against various groups you dislike? Where would you go? Most civilized western societies are working to prevent such things, not sure where you think you will be able to go and have your biases and hatreds celebrated, not many places want to foster that element within their populace.

  5. I am a targeted individual that has discovered that I have been harassed and stalked by a group of people from an agency called Ciitzens Corps which is under FEMA which is apart of DHS.

    I have moved from 3 states in the past few years and have lost a total of 49 computers and have been harassed in every U.S school I enroll along with churches and while shopping. The harassment has been at home even while I eat food.

    To my amazement the FBI and other agencies have been outsourcing my harassment. If I could leave America today an never return I can say I am happy with that.

    I am a Secessionist whom is opposed to the continued occupation
    Of my state by the foreign US government. Obviously, the US
    Does not take those whom share my views in high regard. Thus,
    I am seeking a civilized country that would either grant me
    asylum or allow me to immigrate without a lot of money. I have
    a college education, but I have been denied employment in
    every field except for working as a laborer due to my politics.
    I do not wish to waste the rest of my life sleeping in a vehicle
    and begging for food. This is no existence. The US has been
    harassing people whom share my political views. Where could
    I go that is a decent place to live?

    • I am in a similar situation.I have been seeking asylum well over three years.It is very unlikely any country that gets along with the United States will give you asylum or help you.In fact the may harm you and help those who wish to harm you in the U.S. as did happen to me.I am now crippled,sick and almost out of cash.I have learned a lot during my quest for asylum and I want to share it will you and anyone being treated unjustly in the U.S. or any part of the world.First you should know that your best chance to get asylum or help from any country is from countries that hate the U.S. like Iran,Cuba,North Korea,Ice Land,Venezwheala and several others.Also if you parents were born in another country you may get asylum and or help from them as Dr. Les Sachs did.Dr. Les Sachs wrote a free e-book about the corrupt american justice system.You can also try joining the french foreign legoin.Argintina is a country that has laws favorable to anyone seeking asylum.You might want to research Scotland and Cambodia’s laws about asylum and refugee status.I did find a way for american’s to escape america but you may need a small income.You can go to Leticia Colombia and get the free visa for U.S. citizens.When the visa runs out just go across the amazon river into Peru and get the free visa.When the visa runs out go back to leticia Colombia again.You can also hide out in the amazon if your a survivalist.You should learn to grow and sprout your foods and you will need a jungle hammock with musquito net.If anyone wants more information I am here to help all people of the world who are treated unjustly.I believe in doing no harm and as much good as I can for all living beings.I do this out of love and at no cost.God bless you brother.William

Do I qualify???

    For years AFTER my divorce from a physical abuser, I have inflicted continued severe trauma from the abuser because he works for our federal government with his Top Secret Clearance for the US Navy, and because Dod has done nothing, and with 7 years after divorce, the abuses inflicted on me by the abuser persisting, escalating and getting worse every year, there is sufficient ongoing evidence of extreme hardship, loss and violence that he is doing next year and the year after until I am dehumanized totally, unless DoD stops him. He has shown a history of obsession. You have caused this with your persecution of me as a victim of his by failure to take action and negligence because of I am a lowly class, private citizen woman from rural US, and because the man abusing me is a powerful US federal military male from New York City. Our military is the most powerful in the world so my ex husband’s power against me has been limitless.

    I have filed complaints , and received email and written responses from personnel base that were a mere coverup of the abuses being done to me by your employee.

    They did not fire him for his white lie answers and omissions on his strangulation and domestic violence of me. He even lied to the investigators that he was still living in Ohio and pretended it was a “mistake, wrong state”- When caught and documented as caught, your organization continues to let the abuser abuse his powers through white lies and coverups in order to cause me total harm and abuses ongoing.

I have been trying to seek asylum for several years now because my condo,vehicles and much of my money has been illegally taken from me by wealthy land developers on Anna Maria Island.Asylum or refugee status is very difficult to get for American citizens.I’m told it is best to apply for asylum in countries that are not on good terms with the US.I have read Cuba has given even criminals from America asylum.There are other ways of escaping america with out applying for asylum.If you go to Laticia Colombia you are just across the amazon river from Peru.This has great advantages because i’m told as an american you can stay in Colombia 6 months of the year and you can stay in Peru 6 months of the year.All you have to do is take a boat across the amazon to Peru.There is plenty of food in Laticia.I lived there homeless for several months.I was mugged in Tanganga Colombia after I bought my plane ticket to Laticia.They took my bank card,money,passport and survival equipment.The people of Laticia were so kind and giving I was able to live there with out money.I was not able to cross the amazon river into Peru because I had no passport.I write about my experinse hoping to help others who may be in situations like mine and can not get help.I do not recommend seeking asylum in Venezwhalea at this time because the large cities have a shortage of food and tourists have been killed because of the desparate situations in that country at this time.I recommend reading Dr Les Sachs free ebook about the corrupt american justice system.I have written to Dr. Les and he recommends if your parents were born in a foregin country to apply for asylum in that country.If you are an experinced sailor you may want to try living on the ocean and traveling along the coasts of other countries.There was a wonderful book called “Sailing The Farm” that can help you start life over living on the ocean.America does not stand for liberity,justice and peace for all anymore.In america its the man with the most money can buy his liberty and justice but these wealthy bullys never have peace because don’t have love or compassion in their hearts or know the sweet Lord Jesus.I wish those seeking asylum the very best, be careful in your journey.Many blessings,William

  9. Jason, I really feel for you here. It seems that you have opened a Pandora’s Box. Take it from someone who has traveled extensively as well as lived in various countries in both Europe and Asia, as well as having several close friends that work immigration agencies (UK, Estonia, Canada, etc.).

    As U.S citizens, ALL of you will have a VERY hard time convincing ANY immigration authorities that you are facing the kind severe persecution that warrants either Political Asylum or Refugee status (there is a difference). As stated in the article, the burden of proof is on the applicant. For example, Immigration officials in the UK won’t automatically assume that you have the kind of issues that would allow you refugee status, they will require some kind of evidence of extreme persecution.

    Some of you don’t need asylum or refugee status, you need to take your prescribed medications. The minute you start going on about assassination attempts, shadowy government agencies and mind-control you’ll be sent for psychiatric evaluation and given a one-way ticket back to the U.S. A friend who works for the CBSA told me that the vast majority of Americans who present themselves as asylum seekers are certifiable. Canada has no room for people who will be a drain on the system, or potentially dangerous to themselves and others.

    For those with criminal backgrounds… well… good luck. The vast majority of the World’s nations DO NOT WANT YOU!!!! If you’ve been convicted of a sexual offense, I can guarantee you that you will NOT welcome ANYWHERE, so you may as well get used to your unpleasant life here in the U.S. Furthermore, if you’ve been convicted of sex crimes against minors, new passport laws have made it mandatory that your passport contains information stating that you are convicted paedophile. Good luck using the said passport to enter Canada, you’ll be turned away. Simply put, YOUR actions have consequences. Deal with it.

    In conclusion, there are easy ways to duck your obligations here in the U.S and find sanctuary overseas. You need language proficiency, professional skills, and a verifiable reason to be allowed to stay (marriage, property, etc.). Sadly I feel that most of you don’t meet these requirements.

  10. I wrote a book that was offensive to whites in USA. I am writing another. I received death threats and harassment from whites. I want to seek asylum and am leaving on Jan 3 to the country. I didn’t save anything because I didn’t know I would make this decision.

    USA citizen can apply asylum seekers in Germany or not

    • I doubt that is a basis to qualify for asylum, but you would need to talk to a lawyer in Germany, as I am in the US and I do not know the law in Germany. Take care, Jason

    • This has happened before to other U.S Citizens. If you owe child support ( I believe $3000 in arrears) your passport will be confiscated or you unable to renew it. Also, I doubt Germany wants deadbeat dads anymore than the U.S does. What exactly are you claiming asylum for? Not paying your obligations? Good luck to you….

  12. I cannot agree more with those accused of conspiracy theory and mental illness by the US government.

    I am a 30 year old Black female currently seeking asylum in Canada because the FBI conducted illegal survellance against me for 14 years in part because I was abused in a horrible experiment by the public school system in Iowa who wanted to set a national and perhaps global standard for child intelligence measuring, which it is currently nearly impossible to test the IQ of a child because of the way their brains develop it is not similar to an adult.

    For years I was forceable institutionalized as an incompetent dumb person and being born to poor teen-aged parents who could not do much about what was going on.

    When I exposed that I was being monitored by the FBI online in 2016 after they revealed horrible rumours about me through an informant in a private Facebook page they called every place I put in a job application at and held up my “background check” for at least 4 or 5 weeks.

    Jobs that i did get hired at was infultrated by undercover government agents.

    They sent two informants to sexually abuse and sex traffic me, one of which was a dangerous gang member, the other admitted to having ties with the CIA.

    I moved 1400 miles away from Iowa to Phoenix shortly thereafter where I found work at a medical supplies factory. I have reason to believe most of the workers including management on my shift were replaced by undercover double agents who would let off stink bombs near me, pass of harrassing rumours of the same nature as the ones they did online….and treat me like I was retarded again…..

    My social and family life was affected by them bribing people to treat me a certain way..

    I was able to get a close friend of my family in Phoenix to actually confirm for me online that she was contacted by someone claiming to be with the government and it was the same guy who attempted to sex traffic me in Iowa who claimed to have government ties in the CIA!

    2 days after I found this out and was about to get her to sign an affidavit I was terminated from my job without warning, cause or incident.

    Their deviousness has not stopped and I am currently residing at a shelter for abused women in Canada but ……They have once again infultrated the Canadian justice system and had me detained at the border for one month although I had a valid passport and no criminal activity. The reason: NCIC warning from the government that I am an “Insane and dangerous person” who is also “suicidal” although I have never owned a weapon….

    I am considered armed and dangerous in all American police databases although I have no weapons ever or violent crime convictions.

    …….This is my experience. They are STILL everywhere around me and even completetly re- staffed the shelter with their agents and stand- ins, also double agents in the place of the “other women” who are supposed to be here.

    I am seriously thinking going to Africa and establishing citizenship somehow. I do not care about poverty, just want to be free….. Trying to find out which countries in Africa actually honor the convention laws and are unlikeliest to side with US corruption.

    • Given your rambling prose, I seriously doubt that Canada will take you in. I would suggest seeing a physician, not an attorney. Furthermore, as someone who has been to several African countries, you will not find solace there. Believe it or not, most African countries have VERY strict immigration laws that are both arbitrary and expensive to navigate. My advice? Seek medical help.

      • I woudn’t warrant “rambling” to Canada not letting me in as much as EU corruption that is almost more rampant than in the third world countries.
        African Americans have sacrificed themselves on every level to the Americas yet instead of getting rewarded with a just system that works and is fair we are punished serverly, systematically and with corruption and loopholes I am sorry I am tired of the sacrifice!
        Besides most African countries that are independent from European control that they fought and died for will probably understand EXACTLY where I am coming from here!

    • I feel your pain. I am not African American but I am from Iowa and have suffered much of the same abuse that you speak of. Starting from age 11 I was forcibly taken from my parents by the Iowa department of human services. With false claims of mental instability and being a threat to myself and others. Their only diagnosis being that I have an authority disorder, whatever that means. They are monsters and destroyers of lives and families for sure. I’ve been forced to live almost my entire adult life as far off the grid as possible Just to survive. I now live over 1000 miles from Iowa. Not going to say where out of fear for my life. I have always dreamed of living somewhere that I could have peace and freedom in my life but have become pretty convinced I’m going to end up dying never knowing what it’s like not having to constantly be on the run and living in the shadows.

    • I think it will be hard to live in Africa, it has been and still is ravaged by war to make pillaging of resources continuoisly possible and profitable. Many people are fleeing from parts of Africa and drowning in the sea to escape war and poverty. I don’t think Aftica is a good choice for those onhoing reasomd.oòò

  13. I am a US born civilian citizen, age 48. I am still trying to secure a path to asylum, most preferably in Canada, or Europe. The details include events and person within the US government as well as municipal armed and unarmed authorities. I am not a criminal and have no criminal record. The method of those treating my human and civil rights is obvious–incrimination and ostracism within the established systems. There are in addition, shocking and atrocious events of abuse and human rights violations which have never been documented or admitted to even–because, again, they are crucial to the authorities in maintain their jussive. Please refer to a competent source here in Syracuse NY where I was forced to relocate from my native NYC a couple of years ago. Thank you.

    • I do not know anyone in Syracuse to recommend, and in any event, you would need to talk to a lawyer in the country where you plan to relocate, as that person can give you advice about moving to the new country. Take care, Jason

  14. I am escaping the United States next month by a sailboat. I have paid to be taken to The BVI. I do not have a passport, because I remain in the rears on child support.This has been the case for 16 years ,as I am in my mid 40s. I am leaving because I have been hunted since 2003. Over 20 professional attempts have been made on my life by people who work within law enforcement,including the FBI. I will not go into to details about the reason behind the contract that was placed on me ….other than sometimes you can know too much. I have not left the house many times in years. I am able to work from my computer at home, so I pay someone to even do my shopping as I cannot go out in public. It is too risky. I was in prison in the late 1980s for receiving stolen property, so I have no gun rights, and cannot defend myself..If I dont leave this country it is only a matter of time before my luck runs out. I have been to the police for help, but they tried to kill me. I was beat almost to death and left for dead.So, I am out of options. I just want to live my life in peace,and not have to live in constant fear of being shot to death. So, I will show up in the BVI, which is owned by Britain, with no passport. I will ask for asylum. I will not return to America for no reason. I will commit suicide first. I would rather kill myself than to be murdered by someone else for no good reason.If I cannot get protection from law enforcement in my own country, where am I to go for help? I am packed and ready to go, if this thread is still open in September I will give a update as to what the British officials are telling me…Great blog…I hate to see there are other people like me….but I am kinda happy to see I am not alone in this plight…..God Bless

Maybe before you go, try reaching out to friends or family to see whether there are any alternatives for you to avoid the trip, if you have not tried this already.   15. I am having child support fines used against me to testify against someone I do not even know.
    My political beliefs differ from that of the United States and for the last 20 years I have been denying their corruption and I have been imprisoned for it.
    If I believe it is wrong than I will not do it, it is as simple as that.
    Because of this I suffer persecution on a daily basis for the last 20+ years. My father was labeled as a “scumbag criminal” and I was treated the like, even long after my father died when I was 8 years old.
    I have been imprisoned, beaten, molested, etc.
    Did I not mention that my mother abandoned me when I was 2, so I grew up in military boot camps from the age of 8 until the age of 17, than prison….
    I am denied any and all information when I request it from child support regarding my children.
    I am being served with a warrant for refusing to be extorted out of everything I have.
    they take 80% to 100% of my checks for child support and make it impossible for me to support my 2 year old daughter and her mother.
    We only survive because my daughters mother works very hard and I am a competent programmer that makes money via the internet.
    Did I not mention that if I get a second job, that instead of being able to support my family on the second job and pay child support with the first, they take a large percentage of the other as well!
    I cant do this anymore, I am literally dying as my health is degrading and now my intestines are failing because of the immense stress I am being put through.
    Please, I cant not lose my daughter, she is all I have left in this world that women and the government has not taken from me.
    Does anyone have any suggestions which country I should seek refuge? I am not an incompetent and I am quite skilled in engineering, programming, cooking, chemistry, etc.
    I am just looking for a new home that my family can be proud of and start the new line in a better life.

    • You may be better off staying here and trying to work out these issues – maybe a divorce/family lawyer (or non-profit) could help. If you do decide to leave the country, talk to a lawyer in your intended country first, to see about whether you would be able to stay there. Take care, Jason

I don’t but I kind of value my freedom and it is, essentially, an obligation I must pay. Also, in my 15 years in the Army, I never once saw an eight-year-old in uniform. Pay your bills and stop procreating. I can only imagine how hard immigration officials in some far-away land are laughing when they read these rubbish comments.

    • You can try seeking asylum in a country that hates America they are more likely to help you.Please do your research before going to these countries because some are worse then America.Please read my last post for more information on other ways to escape America.I have gotten out of America with out asylum.When I was in Brownsville Texas I just needed 4 quaters to get across the bridge into Mexico.I do not recommend staying in Mexico because it can be dangerous at this time.Belize is dangerous and corrupt also.Lake Atitlan Guatamala is a wonderful,healthy and cheap place to live but you must go over the border into Mexico for 3 days ever 3 months to get your passport stamped.Parts of Gualtamala are dangerious and corrupt also but the beautiful little villages of lake atitlan are generally safe as long as you dont travel between villages at night.

  16. I am seeking assylum, but I am still located in a US territory, due to the following reasons:

    I was set up in the USA for a crime that never occurred. I was charged for 3 felonies ruled as “attempts”. I was coerced into accepting a “court offered plea agreement”, where the evidence was concealed, and the court instructed me that if I returned to such court, the court would impose the maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

    Because the facts of the case would have aquitted me of such crimes, I did try and return to the court, taking the risk of being imposed the maximum sentence. The court denied me to return to court and to disclose the evidence. I further proceeded to Petition the Federal Court for a Writ of Habeas Corpus.

    Although the Law in the USA states that the evidence is required for a conviction, such higher court also denied me the right to have an evidentiary hearing to disclose the evidence against me. Such higher court also denied me the right to appeal WITH prejudice.

    (The evidence would have showed all the crimes that the Sherrifs Department committed, thus the reason to conceal it)

    My sentence was that of 10 years, but it was cut in half to the 4.5 years I served under torture and constant assasination attempts at my life, the case was dissmissed (Terminated), and the case was closed without the evidence ever disclosed.

    I remain with a conviction for crimes that NEVER occurred, and will be persecuted for the rest of my life.

    Although I am not on provation, I remain under constant investigation and will be for the rest of my life.

    • This circumstances is very difficult, but I do not know whether it would qualify a person for asylum, as there are specific requirements under the law.       • The problem is that it involves massive corruption and the people involved do not want it exposed.

        Here is what has occurred to me so far:

        I continue to be persecuted in a US territory where “in accordance with USA laws”, and the police park in front of my house every night, and follow me when I leave my house.

        According to them I will have to go through this for the rest of my life. Because my case is so dirty, they will attemp to set me up again. My case involves government corruption.

        While I was incarcerated the corrections officers attempted to assasinate me multiple times.

        Here is a brief description of what I have already suffered by them:

        I was placed in solitary confinement cells on and off for a total of 8 months. While in there, I was handcuffed and multiple officers placed my head inside the toilet and they flushed the toilet so that I would drown. I was instructed to stand on top of the toilet naked for hours.

        They often refused to give me food, and when they did, they placed small pebbles under the food. On one other time they placed small pieces of razor blades under the food.

        During the winter months, they would take all my clothing, and lower the temperature in the solitary confinement building. They also took away the blankets so I would freeze.

        They declined to provide me medical treatment when I needed it. They also declined to provide hygene toilet paper and instructed me to use my socks instead. I had to use them.

        They made me shave with machines who other inmates use and had diseases and cuts on their faces (as of today I am free of diseases by the grace of God).

        I was told to place my cross pendant inside my uniform or suffer the consecuences of being placed in solitary confinement AGAIN, while every other religion was allowed to manifest their religions.

        They would pay other inmates (who did not receive money) $50.00 to stab me while I was sleeping…

        And a whole number of other things.

        Everything has been documented in court records for which I received zero assistance.

        And it is my STRONG belief that they do not want all those records to be exposed.

        As of today, No one can even see the record as a public record.

        What is sad is that I served in the US Navy, was discharged with an Honorable Character of service, (to protect the rights I was not afforded in courts), served as a civilian for 15+ years in the field of Telecom, but even when I visited the Veterans Hospital, I am now told I am not a Veteran and do not qualify for medical help if needed.

        As crazy as it sounds

        I don’t know if you would be able to assist me, but thank you regardless.

        Lawyers will not take my case and I am indigent.

        • One more thing.

          I was released last year, and handed over to the Probation officers custody the same day.

          I was re-arrested the same day I was released from prison, at the probation office. The probation office filed an affidavit stating that I Did Not Follow their instructions in giving them an address where I would reside, which is yet more lies.

          Approximately 8 months prior to being released, I had given the Departmetment of Corrections Classification Department an address where I would be residing (for which I have the evidence, i.e. Inmate Requests / Grievances signed by the Dept. Of Corrections), in order to apply for an Interstate Compact. They never completed the process and stated that I had Never given them an address.

          I spent an additional 30 days of incarceration for yet more lies.

          The correctional officers again began telling other inmates lies about me to instill violence against me. I survived, again by the grace of God.

          After those 30 days I visited the court. The State Attorneys office, The Probation office, and the Public pretender ALL agreed to dismiss my 5 years of probation if I could prove, once released, that I had left the US. The court agreed to dismiss such probationary period of 5 years if I could prove that I had left the US by the next hearing.

          I left the US to a US territory. Proved to the court that I had reported myself to a US territory. The court terminated my probation.

          But, according to the State where I was initially charged and convicted for such “attempts”, I will still need to be under investigation the rest of my life. I will be persecuted for the rest if my life, where the court imposed a sanction of $50.00 costs of incarceration totalling $96,500.

          Anything I would own in the future will be seized according to the court until such payment is completed.

          And here is what I mean by corruption:

          The court is well known to own the jail where people are being set up and incarcerated. The court also has investments in the Corrections Corporation of America, and apparently other WallStreet prison management companies, i.e. Keefee, Wakenhut, etc.

          The courts in such state are using their Sherrifs Departments to set up people, go into peoples homes without issuing warrants to develop probable cause. If non can be developed, the courts offer plea agreements and coerce individuals into accepting such or else.

          Once the individual accepts such plea, the courts sell the items in Auctions and invest the money into their prison management companies. Often trying to get the individual murdered, so that they are never found out.

            I have been told be the PD that I may seek collateral damages for the last 30 days I was falsely incarcerated, but again not one attorney will take the case.

            I spent the 4.5 years of incarceration in the law library, where I read some law and they are aware of my thinking in filing a 8 USC s.1983 for collateral damages, in accordance with the ruling in Trezevant V. City of Tampa.

            But, the courts do not take pro ‘se litigants seriously, and even though the law may be on my side, and the evidence is clear and irrefutable, they often dissmiss such cases.

            Unless,

            There is an attorney involved.

            The Statute of limitations for me to file such 8 USC s.1983 will expire in 3 months. I have typed the suit, affidavit, and indigency petition.

            But in the mean time I am unable to find an attorney to take the case pro bono and expose the Truth.

            Being indigent in the US, and my experience with the courts, has proved to me that unless a person has the backing of an attorney, such suit (with evidence) would be futile.

            That is the case, in 99% of the cases involving corruption. The courts protect themselves and often lie.

            And prior to them even settling a case, they will often persuade in one way or another (just like what I am going through) the person filing the suit to either drop it or ELSE.

        • It is not my area; I would recommend you start by contacting a legal aid organization in your area or maybe a group like Catholic Charities, which assists people with various legal problems and does not charge very much. Take care, Jason

          • I agree with Jason, especially if you had no representation at the trial or were appointed someone you believe to be corruptable. In general, a filing for discovery is lawful. Sometimes that might not work if the documents are sealed. However, there is still a procedure to unseal documents. It sounds like you didn’t have reprensentation. In addition to the organizations mentioned in Jason’s reply, I would also call the local American BAR Association and ask if they know of anyone who takes pro bono (free of charge) cases like your’s. Another way to get some decent legal support could be to call up law school alumni associations and ask them. Many new and well-educated law students find themselves jobless and/or needing more experience after passing the BAR Exam. It might be possible to cut a deal for free or reduced fees. Of course, asking nicely and explaining the details to a lot of people until you find the one could be required in order to be successful.

          • Well in my view the PD assigned to my case colluded with the SA and the Court. They are all corrupt.

            But, I already spoke to several embassies, 2 of which might provide me assylum.

            Eventually all the truth is going to come out. It’s just a matter Time.

But i did my part or face 20 yrs or get shot by cartels, i had no choice but to leave US. Im in india where im legally staying onder OCI (oversesa citizen of india) that means i no longer need to leave india every six months upon reentry. I can stay here as long as i want due to i was born in india but had US naturaliztion citizenship (US passport)- i had to cancel my indian passport when i applied for US passport.Avey way also i got india ID etc. My life was in endangered if i stayed and faced 20yrs uz Cartels would have got me killed in jail. Pls someone help. Since i want to lose mu US passport and get my orginal Indian passport or other country pp.

  17. Hello, I have a question about seeking asylum abroad as a US citizen.
    I have a little problem of having been born as an unwanted child to a rich-ish family in a small town. Instead of doing what normal people would do (abortion, adoption, just plain being a loving family) they actively seek to harm me regularly. Being a combination of rich and from a small town with a heavy isolationist population (basically everyone grew up together and every generation are friends from birth) my family is able to use the cops and the legal system to harass me. I’ve been threatened repeatedly with potential charges ranging from drug use to assault and battery (all false, of course). I’m told in no uncertain terms than unless I adhere to their every command they’ll have me put in jail (or if I try to fight back, 6 feet under). I’ve tried calling the local cops several times when I’ve been assaulted by them in the hopes that one of them wouldn’t be corrupt, but instead I keep getting told that I deserve what happened and that if I didn’t want it to happen again I shouldn’t be disobeying my family. I’ve tried going over their heads to people higher in the system (since they really only control a small isolationist town and not the state or federal government) and I got the legal equivalent of a “get lost kid” from them. I’ve tried contacting human rights groups like the ACLU and they simply replied saying that they don’t have enough lawyers on hand to be able to take my case. Instead they recommended I hire a private attorney. But I can’t afford a private attorney. As part of living with my family I work for them at a job that’s not officially on the government books. It might seem nice to have no taxes, but I’m being paid barely more than 100 USD a week for about 20 hours a week of work, give or take. Plus I have to pay rent to my family, which is whatever they say it is and not a steady amount. Again there’s no paperwork because “officially” I’m not renting from them. Between the low wage and the high rent I’m lucky if I can eat enough meals per day to not go hungry. In addition I have a damaged spinal column (not damaged enough for the government to pay me disability insurance, but badly enough that I can’t do manual labor without severe pain) and still have to do work lifting heavy objects regularly. At times they’ll even take a heavy object and put it in a place that makes it harder for me to reach then order me to move it back to where it was. I want to get out of this hellhole but no one seems willing or able to help. I have a university degree (undergrad only) for no other reason than my family are trying to use me as their source of income. They told me they’d pay for the degree (which they only partially did) and in exchange I’d give over a certain portion of my paycheck to them when I finally got a job. “Or else” they said with a hand on the button to dial the local sheriff if I didn’t agree.
    Anyway I just want to know if I can possibly request asylum somewhere else that would help me. I have few friends who can attest to this treatment though, because my family intentionally alienated me from my generation through several means (such as using public punishment whenever I did something wrong) and my families generations support them because of a combination of friendship and their wealth. There are no police reports filed of the times I did call the cops because my family had them removed either.
    In short I have little evidence of the stuff I’ve said beyond the scars I carry and the psychological trauma growing up under constant abuse has caused. I don’t know what else to do anymore but try to get out of this country, but since I can’t afford to go anywhere monetarily I don’t have much choice but asylum and I’m not even sure I have enough money to get out of the borders of this country so I request it. Is there anything I can do from where I am right now?
    I’m unable to communicate via telephone with anyone (and wouldn’t know who to call if I was) but most of the people around here are extremely technophobic, so I’m fairly safe talking to someone digitally at the very least.

    • One problem with seeking asylum for these reasons is that most countries would deny asylum if they think you can relocate safely in the US. Also, it is not really a traditional asylum case, which might also make it more difficult. Anyway, the best I can tell you is that if you plan to leave the US, you should talk to a lawyer in the country where you want to relocate to see whether seeking asylum (or finding some other way to live there) is feasible.   18. I am in a very strange situation. First at this time I have no passport because the US embassy refused to renew it, unless I supplied an itinerary of a flight to the US or they need me to go in to the embassy. I did not goto the embassy to file for the renewal my spouse did for me.

    So no they have left me documentless in a foreign country. Which is fine by me I do not and will not ever trust the US.

    I left the US in 2010 because a state decided to change my status to better fit their needs. I had charge in 1994 and was listed and registered as a tier 1 by NJ law I only needed to reg for 10 years and I was off. I had received a 9 month sentence and was released on parole. During this time I was crime free and moved to PA was working and bought a house and was living life. Then I finished the reg term in 2007 I moved to LA and was living there for for about a year and a half. I was approach and was told I had to goto a hearing. I did not know what was going on but I did not like the idea. So I went and a relative went with me. The first thing we ask was should I have an attorney, they reply it is not needed. I then went into a room and stood in front of 3 people who did not look official. They spoke toe abouty registration and then stated I had to notify them when I arroved. Fine that is not a problem I thought. Then they read of my charges from NJ and said this is not in our statues so we will choose one equivalent. The one they chose was more aggressive and then they stated toe I have to reg for 25 years and all my information will be put online, my DL will say I am one, my license plate will also state it in the future and I have to pay for everything. So I said why was I told I do not need an attorney, they replied an attorney changes nothing, we decide this.

    So I dealt with it for a few months had theats at the house, vandalism of my vehicle, theats to my family. So I went to renew my reg period and then I told my relative I can not do this anymore. I had my passport already and they wanted to basically steal that from me. I wrote a certified letter stating I was leaving the country and had it mailed. I left the country had no problems going thru customs or any checks. The certified letter was received and the documents are avail to show that as well as me being a tier 1 not a tier 2 which they decided to change me to not a superior judge a group of people.

    So now I am stateless because I am not returning to the US ever their goal is to make money. If I return and do not fight this or have someone fight in my behalf I will have to do 10 years in prison because 3 people decided to change my crime and tier level. The prison system is just a bank for some states with the federal funding and tax funding. I am worth approx 540,000 to that state. This is against not only my civil rights it is also against my human rights.

    My case was a 16 year old girl I was 19 she said I coerced her and I said I did not do anything. I did not have a private attorney so I had to use one from the state. Of course he lied to me he said I would goto jail for 15 – 20 years because they will believe her over me and I was a kid so what did I know I took the 3year term and was released in 9 months. When I was released I did not have to reg because I was not required to.

    So now before you start saying negative statements put yourself in my shoes. I went from being able to work and having a life to having nothing and worrying about when the threats turn real. Me and my wife are going thru this so please any help is appreciated.

    So what help or direction can you supply us asylum is not as simple as one may think. Also I have no documents since they were so kind to keep my money and give us nothing. I also have the a full recording of a call to the US embassy with the woman telling me to break the law in this country by traveling without documents to goto the US embassy. She stated this about 5 times, and also kept saying, “so your not coming”, ” just jump on a bus everyone does it” we asked her name but she never gave it.

    Please we need some good advice.

    • Who told you that you were not required to register as a sex offender? If you are convicted of sexual misconduct then you are REQUIRED to register. In regards to your passport, they are rescinding it because new laws require the State Department to issue you a passport with an additional page identifying you as a convicted pedophile. I would resign your self to the fact that you will be going back to the U.S, as I don’t believe any country will want a convicted sex offender residing within their borders. Why is it so hard for you guys to admit that you have committed an offense?

      • FYI, there are countries accepting assylum seeking US citizens, regardless of any US felony convicción.

        But you do need to have some professional credentials that the country taking you in can use you.

        Canada, countries in South América, and some countries in the EU have seen for years how corrupt and dishonorable the United States justice system is.

        But once any solid evidence comes out against such verifiable corruption, some people in Thor US want to call it a false propaganda, and go as far as calling the Wistleblower a traitor.

        There is always a way to get out of the US and seek asylum, but get all the evidence you can of harrasment and persecution so that you can present it at a foreign embassy upon your arrival.

        • Okkkkkkkk… Americans are also quite aware the corruption within our borders, nobody ever said that U.S was the epitome of transparency. That’s why we have a free-press and various organizations (both governmental and private) that are more than happy to take on the case of a legitimate whistleblower.

          Let me make this simple. When it comes to asylum, many Immigration officials often play the part of the “Advocatus Diaboli.” If there is a reason for them to deny you sanctuary, then they will find it and use it. Are there Americans with felony convictions residing overseas? Of course. I know one personally, but his residency in the Czech Republic is due in part to his marriage to a Czech national AND his felony (possession with intent to distribute) was relatively minor, occurred several years ago and he was able (through the courts) to have his felony record reduced (an arduous process). The fact is, Czech authorities felt he was a good bet for admittance.

          Furthermore, what corruption are you attempting to uncover? If it’s in regards to treatment of inmates and the internal processes of American correctional institutions, the ACLU would probably be more apt to help you, in which case you have the instruments HERE -in the U.S- at your disposal. In regards to evidence… well… yes, some people are apt to disregard solid evidence that runs counter to their perceptions, but again… solid evidence is solid evidence, it cannot be ignored… do you have ANY evidence (to include witnesses) to the corruption and persecution you have so passionately written about? If so, please share it, not with me but a credible news outlet or organization interested in social justice.

          In regards to walking into an embassy and asking for asylum, I think the article is clear on this point. You will be asked to leave and you will be removed (forcibly if necessary). The “jumping the fence” and asking for sanctuary looks good in the movies, but in reality it is more prosaic. I have a friend in the DC Police who has told me all sorts of outlandish tales to include arresting unbalanced people who park themselves at an embassy and won’t leave. Simply put, they don’t care about your evidence, you’ll be asked to leave and most likely told to travel to said country and make your request THERE. Going to an embassy is a dead-end.

          It might seem like I’m being mean-spirited to you and others here and in some part this would be a correct assumption. I’ve worked with refugees and asylum seekers in the past. People running from REAL dangers in places like the Congo, Somalia, Iraq, Syria, North Korea. Their tales, tribulations and sacrifices continue to have a profound effect on me. FYI, some of those people had their claims denied and were sent packing. So you can probably appreciate how irritated I become when I see Americans, who have a wealth of choices and possibilities, clogging up the courts with frivolous asylum and refugee claims. Mentally ill or not, individuals such as these make a mockery of UN Conventions and it has a detrimental effect on the asylum process as a whole.

            And even though the Courts have knowledge of such lacking and exculpatory evidence, they OFTEN DENY Defendants to know.

            Furthermore, the Courts appoint PDs who will NEVER instruct a Defendant to their rights, as to a Jury Instructions requirement for a conviction beyond a reasonable doubt.

            So what do the CROOKS do?

            Get the PD to hide evidence and hide the law, so that an individual accepts a plea without knowledge of the plea set up.

            Once the individual accepts such plea, the courts sell the items seized (without warrants) from individuals at Auctions and invest the money into their prison management companies, which is where the a great number of officials invest their money (private prison management cos.)

            Am I incorrect?

            Search for yourself and see if the mayor investors of private prison management companies are not high officials.

            That was just a short example,

            Go ahead and get me started on how CORRUPT your garbage system and US citizenship actually is.

            FREEDOM?

            Is that why the US has more people incarcerated than any other nation in the planet, or is it because of vested interest by crooked officials?

            I do not blame any department, nor any agency, but instead those who get to a level of trust and often abuse it.

  19. Hello. Just as everyone else on here I have a few questions that hopefully you can give a little comfort to a decent answer.
    I am a US citizen and so is my son from a previous relationship.
    A while back I converted to Islam and within the last year I married my husband.
    Ever since I told my family about the upcoming marriage it has been Hell.
    My son’s father was never in his life but my family told this man about the marriage and he has thus started to follow us and drive by our home screaming very cruel names.
    We moved and then my family hired someone to follow us there and find out where we were living.
    My family has threatened to take my son because I am Muslim and married to a man they very much despise.
    My family has stolen my son’s passport which was being sent in the mail. I was told this is federal property and filed a report only to have the officer pretty much laugh at the situation because apparently he agreed with the family.
    I have been ignored when I file reports here and I personally am scared because I know my family and my son’s father will stop at nothing to be rid of me.
    Is there anything you know of that I can do?

    • This is a forum about seeking asylum, and I highly doubt that is something you want to do (which would involve moving to another country). It seems to me that you need someone to advocate for you and help you. Most likely, that would be a family-law/divorce attorney. I recommend you try to find someone in that profession who you can talk to (and there may be such people available at non-profits who are less expensive). Also, you might reach out to CAIR – the Council on American Islamic Relations. Maybe they can point you in the right direction. Take care, Jason

  20. I would like to be appreciated for what I do, I have found that many people are in need of someone that cares for the people. I am one of the people that gives everything to support a cause. I am fighting for my life in a place that it seems to be appreciated for, but not to real people that at times even lost everything in search for freedom, and democracy around the world. I am one of the co-founders of the internet, also a Corporation. It well known what technology could do for its people. It is my concern to be there always for the people.

    I’m an American that was placed on a federal terrorist watch/no fly list for having vocal opinions about federal government surveillance. I got a call from the FBI one day asking to meet. Being a young naive dude I didn’t think much of it. They asked me about my interest and what I think of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and tactics used by insurgents. I gave non bias opinions. After that they said stay out of trouble and do well at my job and we said our goodbyes (or so I thought). A month later when attempting to board a flight to NYC to visit a friend I denied boarding and told I Was on the no fly list. After hearing this I immediately drove to Canada in an attempt to claim asylum. I was denied, deported and detained by a CIA contractor at a homeland security detention center right across the border. He scared me and said I was going to prison forever if I didnt tell him the truth and asked me if I had a gun and said they picked up my friend down the street with a gun (which I knew was a lie). He was trying to get me to make a false confession to in-prison me. After hours of detention they “let me go” just to have me committed to a hospital on suicide watch. I was I was once chased by a CIA contractor down a highway. I thought some random dude was trying to race but he just got behind me about 4 ft from my bumper at 140mph. I got off the highway and he was still behind me and i pulled into a gas station and got out and he said “We know who you are you hate America and shit then got back into his car and drove off”. No I am not making any of this up either. This is real life and I have lawyers, friends and relatives to back me up. Do you think I have a case? I was harassed by the feds to the point of false imprisonment (getting pulled over because my car was flagged a terror suspect and taken into jail for 72 hours on a warrantless arrest) and job loss after federal agents went to two jobs I was working. I have skills and care take care of myself I don’t money just safety. I’ve attempted suicide due to this. I’m currently hiding in Europe working a regular job but I’m afraid they might come looking for me. Please help. I want to claim in Switzerland because a lawyer said I have my best chance there.

    • If you can get evidence about this (such as letters from people who know about it), you might have a case. You should talk to a lawyer in Switzerland and get their opinion under Swiss law, as laws on asylum vary from one country to another. Good luck, Jason

    • I agree there i myself was also placed on the NCIC as “armed and Dangerous”, Suicidal and other things without any related criminal activities or occurances. along with being stalked and monitored and 24/7 and this all started when i was 16, I am now 30 and have seen some of the most inhumane treating by their informants including rape, sexual trafficking and domestic violence……

      I would say keep your head up because they are putting people on these lists for a reason, perhaps fear due to growing unfavorable opinions globally of the US.

      Think about it, they are true to their form in bombings of other nations and exthortion and exploiting them for resources and experimentation as well. It is becoming plane as day and those in power do not want money to stop.

  22. OK. I know it’s a long shot. And I don’t expect any response other than Talk to a lawyer, yada yada….” But I NEED to defect to a country with socialized medicine. I’m a 40yo Type I diabetic with several other progressive diseases. With the repeal of Obamacare (most likely) I WILL lose my insurance and go from the expensive plan I pay for (more than 10% out of my earnings out of pocke) to an entirely unaffordable and untenable high-risk pool plan.

    I will die. And I will do so slowly and in pain.

    I wonder if I could claim persecution. I would say it definitely falls under the definition: “an extreme concept, marked by the infliction of suffering or harm… in a way regarded as offensive.” and the reason is purely political, in an act of pure short-sightedness. What is a guy like me to do?

    • If someone came to the US and made such a claim for asylum, it is unlikely that the case would be granted. Generally, there has to be affirmative persecution based on a protected ground (like political opinion). In the case you describe, the harm is inflicted because the government is taking away a benefit from everyone – you are not being targeted based on a protected ground. However, laws are different in each country, and so whether you might qualify for asylum (or some other type of immigration benefit) would probably depend on what country you go to. And of course, it is a good idea to talk to a lawyer in that country before you go (sorry). Take care, Jason

      Long story short (please excuse my lack of proper sentence structure I’m a tbi survivor)

      I am a survivor of domestic violence that occurred 2.7 years ago. I have again been victimized through consenting casual sex in that he choked me to unconscious without my consent or knowledge befote hand of assault during sex.

      I am and always will be a proud US citizen however I no longer feel I can live without punishment and torture that will eventually kill me.

      I have a current 5 year RO against my attack er (my ex husband of 15 years).

      My income is low $2200-$3100 per month for the rest of my life with full medical benefits (domestic torte) 😉

      The USA is overrated and under staffed in their claims of help for any victims. Never did I seek welfare for my conditions from his assault I live with tbi epilepsy that’s the only thing I’m worried about leaving this awesome country about.

      Any suggestions to point me in the right direction with above issues mentioned would be appreciated.

    I have a friend who’s contemplating leaving the country for political asylum but his wife is in the process of getting her green card. Wonderful woman btw. My friend loves his wife very much but has been through too much already. What will happen to his wife if leaves the country?

    • I do not really understand the question. If his wife is getting a GC, I do not know why it would matter if he was in his own country or in the US. Once she has a GC, she can file for him, but typically, he cannot get his own GC through her without leaving the US. It depends on the circumstances, so maybe let them talk to a lawyer and see what is the best course for them. Take care, Jason

  26. I’m 60. I’ve never had adequate health care my entire life and have been disabled but was unable to ever get any assistance because i had no health care. I took care of my mom with Alzheimers and a number of other diseases for many years. were mistreated. I have PTSD in addition to physical problems. I’ve not gotten any help in saving my home or getting an income despite several degrees or disability benefits because I was a caregiver unpaid for many years so have no social security credits. Of late I woke up semi paralized a couple of months ago and was not diagnsed or treated or helped so I still have some paralysis inclung my hands si typing like this is very difficult. They are going to condem and take my home because I cannot pay property tax or utilities or insurance. When I call looking for help I am usually emotionally abused and I often get depressed and in pain so they threaten me with incarceration over and over and over sending police without a warrent to frighten me and my cat. I am frightend I will be a para or quadraplegic soon and homeless in this brutal now dictatorship with never an income or a way to make a living. If I say it is not fair and I need help I am threatened again and again. My situation is quite desperate now. I am frightened. I have been attacked by police with search and seizure with out a warent many times and again this week and I am in greif and panic now. Please help me find a corner of the world I can go to and be treated like a human being and have some peace and a chance to contribute. please fast, i cannot afford internet or phone or utilities or taxes or insurance, I am still recovering from a paprysis incidenat in november tooo and My cat and I need to go somewhere even though this has always been our only home. please find me help. I do not have a chance here. where can I go?

    • apologies for bad typing and spelling and grammar too though, my hands are still crippled, my chest is still numb as are my feet and legs but i can walk again i was a quadraplegic for three weeks and was even threatened for my life just trying to get groceries and playing my trumpet on the street for donations in my wheelchair trying to survive and no that is not illegal. i was given no rehab or assistance, rehabbing myself got my hands moving playing my trumpet was all i had and my wonderful cat is my only friend, i want to take him with me wherever i go is all i ask and i need somewhere warm and friendly if possible.. I am a musician and a scholar but ill and frightened and in deep distress, so apologies again. I want a society i can contribute in and not be treated like a freak in this war mongering developing dictatarship that casts alzheimer’s and other family caregivers into the street in their old age urgent urgent urgent. peace.

On the other side parents of my spouse are racist Muslims and they don’t accept me.Now we want to seek asylum in a third country Canada as my spouse is in India and I’m in USA for last two years.

  28. I was recently imprisoned by the United States government for a period lasting from Feb. 15 of 2012 until October of 2016. I was imprisoned for importing a chemical from China, a grand jury indicted me on October 11, 2011 for importing the chemical, but it did not become Schedule I until ten days later, on October 21, 2011. I was not allowed bail and really the situation is more messed up than this little box provides room to describe (although I did a big IAMA on Reddit that reached the front page…) – This also caused me to serve a long time in prison and I am still suffering consequences, such as constant surveillance by government agencies and a type of “federal probation”, which prevents me from leaving the country (legally) or even a small area in Florida.

    My political and religious views are very much in conflict with those of the United States when it comes to chemistry. I fear future prosecution because the laws are incredibly vague and not very well defined. It may turn out tomorrow that a rather mundane household item is deemed to be illegal, but before they make that decision, they may indict me today and hold me in prison for the rest of my life. That is the situation which I have already faced.

    What are the chances I can seek Asylum in Canada, if I were to get there, possibly in the future when I will face less restrictions by government agencies? I am afraid that perhaps my case is not of the correct nature to seek asylum from our friends in the North, but was just curious to know if something like this has maybe been done before, or if perhaps there may be another country you know of that would accept me based on the grounds I have provided an briefly outlined.

    Living under constant pressure and monitoring from the DEA, FBI, NSA and a host of other government organizations is very stressful and makes it almost impossible to live a normal life.

    • You would have to talk to a lawyer in Canada about the likelihood for success in such a case. There are, however, examples of U.S. citizens getting asylum in Canada. Mostly, I believe, such people were men avoiding the draft during the Vietnam War. But I know of a more recent example, which I wrote about in a posting on May 28, 2014 – maybe that is worth a look (though the situation is not exactly analogous, at least it is an example of a person getting asylum in Canada).       • Canada has so many FBI agents in it they should rename it Canada of the United States as its official name thanks to Obama passing an anti-terror act in 2014 that allows many people from the FBI US government to live, operate and have jurisdiction inside its borders…..they do not have any reason to be there other than corruption so Canada is NOT safe for fleeing from the US but the people are lovely and seem to understand human rights even better than the people in the US. Did you email the DEA or FDA to find out if the said chemical you imported was a Schedule I substance BEFORE you ordered it? No? Your loss.

      Laughable… I’m in the process of getting a student visa to study in Canada. It is a laborious process to say the least.       You committed a crime. You broke a law that wasn’t all that unreasonable and like most of the losers here, you don’t want to face the consequences of your actions. People like you really scare me. Probation? Sounds like they were very lenient with you. I don’t see how this is cruel and unusual punishment by any stretch of the imagination.

      Might I suggest Indonesia as a possible location to seek asylum? You can import as many “chemicals” from China as you wish. That is, until the POLRI catch you. After that you will be BEGGING to come back to your “small area of Florida.”

      There are MANY people facing persecution all over the world, you are not one of them. Take your punishment, learn from it, and move on with your life.

  29. My friend wants to seek asylum out of the US because she was accused of making threats on a website (which were harmless jokes) and is spending time in jail. She is out of jail now and is now convinced that the domestic intelligence and security service is out to get her, and now she wants to seek asylum. Speaking as her, would her excuse be a reasonable one?

    • Maybe, but I think it would not be a strong claim. If she could show that the jail was “persecution” (usually this is a harm greater thank just being in prison), then maybe. But basically, you are saying she was jailed for being convicted wrongly, and I doubt that would be a basis for asylum. If she plans to try this, I recommend you or she contact a lawyer in the country where she wants to travel and ask whether she has a case. Take care, Jason

    • Sounds like your friend has some Behavioral Health concerns. Most people don’t see threats as “harmless jokes” anymore. They are meant to be taken seriously. Again, she was arrested for making threats… Immigration officials will make note of that and her claim will most likely be denied.

  30. i am a transgender gay man who has been active in politics in the past. i have been brutalized by the police three times while living in the united states since i was a teenager. i grew up in poor, high crime areas. is there a way that i can claim asylum somewhere else on these grounds? i already plan to leave the us either way.

    • You may be able to move to another country even without seeking asylum (there is a certain privilege to having a US passport). To gain permanent status in another country, you need to contact an immigration lawyer in the country where you want to live. I do not know about asylum laws in other countries, but I suspect it will not be easy to get asylum from the US, even under the conditions you describe, but talk to a lawyer in the intended country and they should be able to advise you. We are both bilingual and get harrased regularly (speak english, go back to where you come from) Even at work I can’t even take a vacation to see the wife’s family with out insinuations of bring drugs. Daily unsolicited conversations about engish only).I thought Florida would be a good place because it is diverse but it is worse here than Ma. We would like to go somewhere safe to raise the family.

However, none of this would form the basis for an asylum case in another country (at least I do not think so).   34. I am from Boston, MA and living with my wife and son in Ukraine. She’s Ukrainian. I am being abused Physically and Mentally. I’ve been neaten by 3 men at a time on several occasions. Given a severe concussion, a broken ankle and had most of my money stolen by my wife. I can’t return to USA as I am persecuted for being a Messianic Jew. USA has some serious problems and persecution is becoming great there. I simply want to find Asylum somewhere so I can live the rest of my life in Peace. Can you give me your advise please.     • I can’t really give you much advice. If you plan to seek asylum somewhere, you should contact a lawyer or non-profit in that country to ask for advice. Also, US citizens can live in many countries without a visa, so maybe you want to consider that. Finally, maybe you can return to the US and live somewhere where you feel safe. Good luck, Jason

    • After Israel, Spain or Portugal are the countries most likely to help a jew, if you can prove sephardic ancestry or a link to Spain or Portugal. You would need $5000 in legal fees, a copy of your Ketubah, a clear criminal background, the locations where your ancestors are buried prior to the year 1492, or in the case of Spain a language test to show basic fluency in Ladino or Spanish.

How can I get out the country and join her and my kids if everything i research tells me that I can’t get the process started unless I’m already out the US?     • If your fiancé is a dual citizenship, she might be able to petition for you for status in her country. If you want to seek asylum in another country, you have to be in that country. A person who is physically present in his home country is not a “refugee” as that term has been defined by international law – you have to be outside your country. Take care, Jason
